Ephesians 1:4-5

One verse I don’t know if I’ll ever fully understand (but which I love reading over and over, nevertheless):

“He chose us in Him before the creation of the world,
to be holy and blameless in His sight.

In love, He predestined us to be adopted as sons
through Jesus Christ, in accordance with
His pleasure and will.”

-Ephesians 1:4-5

Any insights as to what “predestined” and “chose us in Him” and “adopted as sons” technically means?

I know my faith doesn’t need the answer
But my brain wrestles with it.

  1. Hi Shannon a look at the wording of this verse helps to explain. GOD in His
alknowing wisdom knew even before he established MAN that we would fail
(SIN). Therefor he planned our redemption through the sending of HIS son
(predestined) is SON (GOD IN THE FLESH) to be our sacrifice for our sin.
(chose us in him CHRIST) that through HIS death, burial, resurection. We

might accept his sacrifice, and become (adopted son’s of GOD). HOPE
this simply illustration brings some satisfactionto understanding this WONDERFUL verseof scripture. ALL MY LOVE PAPA SPAIN

  2. Papa,
I’m so thankful to have your wisdom, and thankful that the internet makes that possible even from far distances. Reading back over the verse again today — and reading over what you said (which did make sense! It did!), helps me put the verse into better context. God’s omniscience (knowing everything) is hard to comprehend sometimes!

    Love you!
    Shannon
