This morning I read Philemon.

“Though I am bold enough in Christ to command you to do your duty,

I would rather I appeal to you on the basis of love.”

Philemon 1:8-9

What a short, beautiful letter!

Every line seems filled with joy (I mean, Paul really packs it in there! ‘I thank my God…,’ etc); reading it reminded me of the value of love, not legalism, in our relationships and daily interactions.

  1. Hey there…Legally, Philemon had a right to tell Paul to return that rua-away slave, but when P. appealed to Philemon as his beloved brother, and mentioned his love and faith toward the Lord Jesus, THAT bond was FAR stronger than a slave and his owner. now Onesimus is more than a slave, but a “brother” in the Lord!! Many times, love FOR and IN Christ creates bonds with fellow Christains even stronger than earthly relatives. Ah, the power of Real Love. God is good…Amen?.

  2. We are indeed, my Dear One…Two hour exam and evaluation w/ cancer surgeon went very well! Surgery will be Jan.28th. Thank you abd Brian for your love and prayers..
